This indicator measures noise originating from aircraft takeoffs and landings at the City of South Lake Tahoe Airport for departures/arrivals between 8 PM to 8 AM. The adopted single noise event threshold standards protect the quality of life for residents and visitors and reduce impacts to wildlife.

Applicable Standard

N2: Maximum aircraft takeoff/arrival noise levels: 77 dBA - between the hours of 8pm and 8am

Key Points

  • An agreement between the City of South Lake Tahoe and TRPA that required the City to monitor and report all noise violations to TRPA expired in 2012 and no new monitoring of single noise events exists for the last four years.
  • Noise monitoring by TRPA at three different neighborhood sites within the airport flight path shows no violations of community noise levels (measured by 24-hour CNEL) during the current Threshold Evaluation period.
  • Single noise event standards and methodologies for determining attainment are recommended for review and updating as part of the ongoing monitoring program and threshold update processes.
